Learn When I studied in the fourth week, I found the lecture always discussed the cases which we should read before, we had to solve problems from the cases and reflected on our experiences. It looked the students work in collaborative groups to solve open-ended problems. The role of the lecture was extremely like a facilitator. We have to collaborate and take responsibility for the group. We have to organize the learning process by ourselves and create a solution together. According to managing creativity and conflict in projects, I learnt new to me there were two types of problem solving-analytical and creative problem solving and four steps of problem solving- define the problem, generate alternative solutions, evaluate and select an alternative, implement and follow up on the solution( David A. Whetten Kim S. Cameron 2011). I think it is benefits to assist me in solving problems reasoningly and effectively, rather than facing are complicated, multifaceted and ambiguous. Moving to the theory of conceptual blocks inhibit creative problem solving, I am confused that complacency includes noninquisitiveness. I realize that I do not ask questions while solving problems since I lose confidence to look for answers without complacency. Moving to interpersonal conflict, the one of major reasons is creative problem solving. During the class, the lecture supported conflict, however, I did not totally agree this point. For example, if group members face conflict and cannot manage well, the results will break the relationships, leading to negative influence on their performance. On the other hand, I also learnt several sources of conflict, such as personal differences, informational deficiencies, role incompatibility and environmental stress, which I have experienced or have seen in the society. Sometimes, I chose to avoid the conflict. Actually, it was good and bad behaviors regarded to different kinds of people when I managed the conflict. I seldom picked other ways, such as forcing, compromising, accommodating and collaborating. Analyse I noticed that integrating and accommodating were two main strategies for managing interpersonal conflict employed by our team members. While this looked like as a kind of strength than some teams, whereas it was a weakness in our case. Rather than dealing with our problems and differences out in the open, we avoided open conflict and defused situations as they arose. When defining a problem,my insight seemed too narrow and seldom catched the major step. I noticed Irish students were confident and creative to solve problems when we discussed about assignments. They avoided the conceptual blocks of creative problem solving to achieve better performance. I admired their competencies in problem solving. But they seemed to be confident evolving into forcing me. I thought my own character tended to avoid conflict, so I might keep quiet when my idea was not accepted. And other two Asian students in my team also tended to integrate and accommodate. This led to delaying the storming stage of our team’s development and thus had a shortage on our team’s performance. Practice We communicated with Irish students about the situation, they also noticed that we were lack of managing personal conflict in our team. We decided to open thoughts sharing with each other whether wrong or right when we discuss the group assignment facing problems. Then each member needed to provide evidence so that others totally accepted. The aim of the strategy was implemented to improve each person’s competency in problem solving and increase positive conflict. The effect of the approach would achieve in the next group meeting. Week6 Assess After I learnt the subject of developing management skills and went on writing reflective learning journal for 5 weeks, we made a sense of weakness then adopting the way of creativity problem solving, it seemed to have great progress. On the other hand, I fostered own ability in problem solving, and I could come up an idea to share my group members when confronted with unslovable problems. We had different opinion for one topic then we implemented positive conflict, rather than keeping avoiding, compromising and accommodating. From my observation, each member had improved their personal ability when we discussed the assignment, like me, I did not have more extra assistance to understand the direction of my part of work. Learn Besides learning the behavior of problem solving, managing conflict and motivation, the effective team to be designed required other key components, such as good communication, mutual trust, effective leadership,negotiating skills and so on. I found that it was useful to help the situation, when tasks required multiple skills, judgment, and experience among designing effective team. In our second written assignment, even though we felt we had addressed the issues, we still faced to re-scheduled meetings due to a lack of communication. We made full use of our time to plan our next two group assignments since we had no assignments due on a week. Then we looked busy to have group meetings and everything seemed to be on schedule. Practice To improve communication and time management, we decided no longer leave a meeting until every team member had clearly written down their work assignments and that we all understood what was expected from us. Then we picked a messaging application for phones-WhatsApp, which everyone could get free of charge. While we also decided to send email to communicate each member and required every member to switch email to their own mobile phones. It was convenience and fast way to check emails rather than logging on the laptop. We would look for all the different tools and selected the one which best fulfilled our needs. That helped team members would be instantly available for discussion or assistance. Apply I need to foster my communication skills, which has effect on relationship and trust, as well as group performance. At first time, I should enhance my listening skills, sometimes I find it hard to concentrate on some speakers, I will try repeating their words over in my head, the way reinforce their messages and help me stay focused. Learn I found I was still confused that the difference between a group and a team. The textbook stated that seemed the scope of team was more widely than the group. In addition, I thought there was new to me that the theory of three key skills to high performing team performance, that is diagnosing and facilitating team development, leading a team and being an effective team member. Suddenly,I realized that it was a difficult task to perform team performance. I was interested in diagnosing and facilitating team development. This skill stated that forming, norming,stroming and performing formed the stage of team development. From my observation, these four stages had significant influence on team development. Analyse At the beginning of forming our team, I found that the dominant culture was individual, rather than collectivist. There was no output interaction, and it was evident that there was absolutely no team spirit. When we decided the suitable time for the next group meeting, some members always delayed time without informing, the situation seriously affected other members’ hours. This led to delay the forming stage of team development, therefore the rest of stages also would be effected. As we knew, the time was important to the team so that was also a reason we almost submitted the assignment before the early deadline. Each member explained that problems had arisen repeatedly but that no one ever took the time to investigate or to solve the matters, since we lacked synergy among the team. Practice We planned to build our team spirit was a prerequisite for teamwork. Generally, we totally agreed to set the scope of time, each member attended the meeting ,who may be late about maximum 10min. If someone could not attend on schedule, he or she should inform other members before starting the meeting. Then other members would recode key points after the absentee catched the work schedule. Apply I think the theory I have learnt is meaningful for me and my team. That is we should adequately implement the four stages of team development to meet better group performance, depending on how effectively the members developed and utilize their communication skills. The team spirit is the prerequisite for teamwork, which is building mutual respect and trust included in the stage of forming, rather than individualism. Next step is fostering commitment to a vision and overcoming tendencies toward groupthink that can occur in the norming stage. Then storming stage pays attention on managing conflict since our team tends to positive conflict, instead of integrate and accommodate behavior. I believe a high-performing team will be achieved if our team carries out these steps. Conclusion I improve my reflective learning journal based on the lecture feedback. For example, the lecture wrote that my reflective learning journal did not follow the learning cycle when reflecting on the material each week, so while writing about weekly reflective learning journal following the pedagogical approach. I find the pedagogical approach provided opportunities for me to apply and develop my process skills to find out things for myself. I am thankful for an appropriate method particularly about writing reflective learning journal. I could express my whole idea freely on it. I would see it as the most effective and appropriate tool for a quiet student like me. It is very beneficial to me because with this reflective journal, I will be able to evaluate my mistakes in the past and to reduce the same istakes or potential mistakes in the future. I would also see reflective learning journal or reflective thought is an effective way to improve my performance. Therefore, I will adopt and apply it for the next couple of weeks. I think that the 4 weeks ‘investment’ in this course has made me received my big dividends which are obtaining the new way of thought in using reflective journal, understanding the importance of teamwork and how to improve the team performance, as well as how to become a creative problem solver. I learnt the importance of being active at the very beginning of lecture’s session which may result in obtaining the other students’ trust to speak on behalf of them. As a team, I found it easier to accomplish complex tasks since we enhance each ability then divide the tasks about who is responsible for what. Concerning sexual health, AIDS has been one of the diseases that catch most attention. It is a destructive disease with no cure at the moment. Those people’s lives are at stake due to vulnerability and high susceptibility to infections. Being aware of the high infectiousness and the bad consequences of AIDS, the Government has put huge effort in combating the disease through promotion. For example, there are talks for students, imparting the knowledge about AIDS and advertisement on TV about prevention. The effort has been rewarded as the number of newly infected with HIV case has dropped by more than 20% from 2007 to 2011, according to HK Government’s report. Yet, solely education is not enough because the Government has to take care of the infected too. It also discusses about the strategies to manage the challenge with evidence from literature. Quality improvement activity: As the Sturt Health Service is going for accreditation next year, one quality improvement initiative that needs to be implemented in the hospital includes implementation of hand hygiene protocol to prevent health care associated infection in patient. Implementing clear hand hygiene protocol along with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is considered necessary because poor hand hygiene practices among health care staff is one of the reason for health care associated infection and poor health outcome in patient (McLaws, 2015). Hence, developing a clear guideline for hand hygiene along with availability of PPE is a necessary step to control infection and promote safety of patient. This quality improvement initiative has the ability to block transmission of contaminants and protect patients from risk of infection during hospital stay. This is also necessary because many variations in hand hygiene practice is seen due to individual and institutional barrier (Ellingson et al., 2014). Some of the barriers to hand hygiene practice among nurses includes giving priority to patient needs than hand hygiene, forgetfulness lack of time for hand hygiene and lack of attitude towards hand hygiene (Sadule-Rios Aguilera, 2017). Hence, the focus is to implement a hand hygiene protocol that is easy for staffs to follow. This will help to achieve the goal of high quality and safe care for patients. Role in leading a team to work on the project: As I, a newly graduate registered nurse with 6 months experience has been asked to lead the team on the quality improvement initiative, I have the crucial role of orienting team members, explaining them the goal of project and allocating task to each team members. This will pave the way for systematically implementing the infection control initiative and making all resources available for the success of the project. As a team leader, creating a culture where inter-professional team members contribute towards the adherence to the hand hygiene practice protocol is considered important. Apart from role allocation and staff management, I will also have the role of developing training plans and budgets for the success of quality improvement initiative. As a leader of the project, my role will be crucial in proper collaboration between team members, inspiring and motivating the team towards the change process and providing the right resource and support to them to achieve the core goal of the project (Regan, Laschinger Wong, 2016). I will inculcate in team members about the values of mutual respect, trust and shared responsibility for client safety to ensure no conflict occurs in the process of implementing hand hygiene protocol. Study on role of leaders in preventing health care associated infection has revealed that successful clinical leaders are able to cultivate a culture of clinical excellence and overcome barriers that impede prevention of health care associated infection (Saint et al., 2010). Challenges in leading the team as a newly registered nurse: As a newly registered leading a team, I may face various challenges in achieving team collaboration and convincing the team regarding the need for change. As a novice nurse, I do not have good management attributes. Hence, managerial challenges will be huge for me. This may act as a major hurdle for me while making team members understand the need for change. Resistance from staffs may arise due to preference for traditional method of infection control. Hence, such issues may delay the process of implementing hand hygiene protocol. At this stage, lack of management qualities will be a major drawback for me. I may also face challenges during negotiation with key stakeholders regarding use of hand sanitizers and PPE by health care professionals. Due to lack of experience as a leader, problem may also occur in delegating task and coordinating different plans as per the protocol directive (Hezaveh, Rafii Seyedfatemi, 2014). Experiencing such issues may also lead to transition shock. Thi s is common for newly graduate nurse when making transition to professional practice. Feelings of frustration, incompetence and dissociating oneself from leadership can hamper my performance as a leader (Ekstrm Idvall, 2015). I need to get over these deficiencies to ensure that the trust that the Nurse Manager has put in me does not go in vain. Strategies to manage the challenges: While implementing the hand hygiene protocol, I am aware that staff resistance will be a major hurdle for me to overcome as a leader. I aim to overcome this issue by properly communicating with staffs regarding the problems they experience in adhering to hand hygiene protocol. After listing down these challenges, the hand hygiene protocol will be made in such a way that all problems or barrier faced by staff in implementing hygiene practice is minimized. For example, health care workers often state that due to heavy workload, they forget to employ hand hygiene practice. In case of this problem, I can suggest the solution of applying visual cues and technology to create a change in culture and behavior towards hand hygiene (Chassin, Mayer Nether, 2015). Hence, when health care staffs will get adequate resource, culture and process to effectively adhere to the protocol, the problem of resistance to the change will be addressed. In addition, to overcome challenges related to poor management skills and delegating with team members, my strategy is not to panic but take support from other experienced staffs. I will talk with my mentor to decide the best steps that can be taken when faced with challenges in implementing the project. To minimize gaps in communication, I aim to use strategies like making eye contact and repetition message to ensure that each team member is clear about their role in the project (Silva et al., 2010). To cope with transition shock, my plan is to stay motivated by engaging in opportunities for leadership development and having the courage to deal confidently with the challenges (Duchscher, 2009). Instead of looking for familiar protective environment, I want to embrace the challenge and learn from it too. Evidence to support strategies to lead team and manage transition shock: To overcome managerial issues in leading the team, I had mentioned about communication strategies and learning about leadership to effectively lead a team. I also mentioned about taking advice from mentors regarding leadership issue. Evidence by Edwards et al., (2015) also suggests that nurses who engage in mentorship programs are able to overcome transition challenges and achieve individual outcome of confidence, competence and stress. I planned to embrace the challenge and take solution oriented steps while leading the team. Daly et al., (2014) also explained that for nurse leaders, having positive leadership quality is necessary. They must be prepared to challenge the status quo and act as effective communicators to develop clinical leaders attributes. Hence, this evidence based strategies will help newly graduate nurse to effectively adapt to new role of leading a team for change. Conclusion: The report discussed about the role of newly graduate registered nurse in leading a team and preparing them for quality improvement initiative of implementing hand hygiene practice at the Sturt Health service. The report gave an insight into challenges faced by newly graduate nurse in leading a team due to lack of exposure to leadership opportunities. Based on identification of several challenges due to lack of leadership skills and transition shock, many strategies were also suggested to overcome these issues. Animal Experiments Animal experimentation by scientists can be cruel and unjust, but at the same time it can provide long term benefits for humanity. Animals used in research and experiments have been going on for 2,000 years and keep is going strong. It is a widely debated about topic all over the world. Some say it is inhuman while others say its for the good of human kind. There are many different reasons why people perform experiments and why others total disagree with it. Each year 20 million animals are produce and breed for the only purpose but to be tested on. Fifty-three thousands of animals are used each year in medical and veterinary schools. The rest is used in basic research. The demand for animals in the United States is 50 million mice, 20 million rats, and about 30 million other animals. This includes 200,000 cats and 450,000 dogs. The world uses about 200-250 million animals per year. The problem with working with animals is that they cannot communicate their feelings and reactions. Other people say that they can communicate and react to humans just a well as one person to another. Some of the animals the researchs use are not domesticated which makes them extremely hard to control and handle. The experiments that go on behind closed doors are some of the most horrific things a human could think of too torture somebody or something. Animals in labs are literally used as models and are poked at and cut open like nothing is happening. When drug are tested on animals only one in eight thousand reach the drugstore shelves and are approved by the Food and Drug Administration or FDA. There are numerous tests that animals are put through. Toxicity testing or testing determining if a substance is poisonous or not. Animals are exposed to chemicals through inhalation, ingestion, eye contact, and skin contact. They are induced or other words they were normal until a scientist inject chemicals, microorganisms, or other substances into them to produce a disease or to create symptoms of a specific condition. They are put in cages that are covered in their own feces and excrement in small cramped windowless rooms in a laboratory where they know they are going to die. They are bred to die and thats their only reason they where born on this earth so that the scientists can test the effects of drugs and disease. Scientists actually stand and watch animals die from diseases. They induce hemophilia (excessive bleeding) in dogs, epilepsy (causes seizures) in mice, glaucoma (eye disease) in rabbits, and deafness in cats. There are three main reasons why animals are used in experiments are research on disease, behavior, and education. Research of how the cells function and how disease works. What causes the disease? What can prevent those diseases and how to cure them? Researchs test drugs, chemicals, or products to determine safety and effectiveness. Tested on drugs, discovery new surgery, and to test vaccine or to invent one. They are used in cosmetics to test their efficiency. They are used in the military to test effects of war, radiation, sickness, and impact forces of objects. The behavior of animals and what affects them. How various organisms and organs respond to events of everyday life? It can benefit in education in school and universities. Students dissect and practice on animals in surgery. It trains them in medicine and science teaching anatomy and biology. Humans and scientist can benefit from animal research by finding cures and helping people, but it costs a lot of money and takes away a lot of money from government funding which good go to help the homeless or build shelters. It is and will always be a long debated about subject. On one hand it will considerably help increase the advancements in medicine and science, but on the other hand it is extremely cruel and is one of the most inhuman things to do. English Literature Essays Witchcraft Goodman Brown Witchcraft Goodman Brown Young Goodman Brown The setting of the story is in the 17th century in Salem, Massachusetts where the center of witchcraft occurred in history. As a backgrounder, during those times, most people believed in witchcraft. The belief originated from Europe where 500,000 people were executed for it between 15th and 17th centuries. Before the outbreak of witchcraft, nearly 300 people had been indicted of witchcraft and more than 30 have been hanged. Both men and women have been jailed and executed those times. Almost everyone who was accused of witchcraft were older women who were likely to be independent and eccentric. This hysteria was believed by historians essential because it was the last time in the history of America that allegations of witchcraft would lead to execution. The experience and its aftershocks also marked the conclusion of Puritan authority in New England. During those times, the leaders of the community of Salem, including those young innocent people like Goodman Brown were easily allured by wicked figures to join cults. The story starts in motion with young Brown leaves his three-month wife, Faith home, and meets a stranger, with a staff resembling a snake, in a forest to join undetermined, but evidently unholy ceremony. It is being discussed in the story that his wife, Faith, wears a hat with pink ribbons on it. Hawthorne explains the character of the wife by the symbol of pink ribbons which entails daintiness, fragility and innocence. He also supports the wife’s vulnerable character when Brown tries to hide the purpose of leaving from his wife with the reason that it might break her fragile heart. At the time of meeting of Brown and the man with a staff, the author also gives a briefing of the stranger’s character. He makes the stranger carry a staff which resembles a snake. It is being associated to the rod thrown by Aaron, a biblical character, before the Pharaoh. It also symbolizes lies and deceit which explains the character of the one who uses it. Hence, the staff of Brown’s companion is being linked to evil. As Brown goes on with the journey with his companion deep in the forest, Hawthorne inserts credibility to the character of the stranger. Credibility so to confuse the readers whether the stranger is good or bad†¦whether he is wicked or not. It sets the mood of confusion when the author explains that the stranger’s looks could be mistaken for a father of Brown. He pictures out that the two resembles each other. The author stops not there for the purpose of confusing the readers more. He also tries to puzzle the readers when the stranger utters to the main character that he once, worked with Brown’s parents which gains the stranger credibility so Brown will be comfortable journeying with him. Hawthorne is successful in building the mysterious character of the stranger. At one point of their journey, the stranger offers his staff to Brown to help the main character on their way to the unexplained ceremony. Brown refuses to take it which could be a symbol of the author that the main character is not fully convinced to wickedness yet. As the two moves on, the story shows that Brown begins to realize that a lot of his townsfolk are traveling towards the ceremony which surprises him particularly when he sees the Deacon, the Minister and the woman who taught him catechism whom he considers models of the Christian community. On that note, the author is leading the readers to think about two things; either those people familiar to Brown are really heading towards the ceremony or the stranger, who plays the devil role to those who Hawthorne isn’t able to confuse, just makes a mere imagination for Brown, but both serves the same purpose, to lure him to the ceremony. The ideas are applicable to the story and Hawthorne uses figures like those people whom Brown looks up to like the Deacon, the Minister and the woman who taught him catechism. Noticing all these, he understands that not everyone, who seems to do good things, shows holiness and preaches the good word is sincere to what they do. This realization makes him want to turn back at some point but for some reason, he decides to proceed. Hawthorne could be showing that the main character’s step to wickedness progresses. At some point of Brown’s journey, he is traveling alone when he sees his wife also heading towards the ceremony. That scene gives him mixed emotions. Excitement captures his being because at one point of his journey, he wanted to just go back to his loving Faith, but disappointment overrules his soul. He is disappointed knowing that his wife is to be initiated at the ceremony. He never imagined that his three-month wife, fragile and loving, whom he tried to protect from his own evil, will be corrupted too. Hawthorne is able to support his description of Brown’s three-month marriage with Faith. Being married to someone for such a short time illustrates that there are lots of things to be discovered from each other. There could be lots of surprises. On that note, Brown understands more that even his wife, whom he trusts so much, who seems to be not capable of doing anything immoral, could be wicked too. The author must also have used the word innocent as a hint that this character could easily be deceived by anyone. As the story goes on, Brown stops for a moment, being in deep pain of the knowledge that his wife will also be at the ceremony. He calls the witches and devils and says â€Å"fear this Brown as he fears you.† Hawthorne makes a terrifyingly great scene here. He adds strong winds, sounds coming not from a single man and shadows waving coming from the trees. He pictures the scene well. And as Brown accepts that his wife is also attending the ceremony, he considers just going on. A scene in the story, when Brown sees a pink ribbon falling from the sky that leads him to losing his Faith in two aspects. Brown still goes on to the ceremony. It was shown by the author by his incredible picture-painting talent that Brown was determined to continue his journey in the woods to the ceremony but dragging his feet at the same time. The actor in the motion picture should be very good at doing this, tag with an excellent director in order to show what the author is trying to picture. A trophy for Hawthorne. During the ceremony, Brown sees a lot of newly converted members. Hawthorne paints a clear picture of the ceremony. A fire-lit place in the deepest of a forest, a rocky altar at the middle where a minister preaches and the converts who are being called to come forth the altar to be anointed by blood to seal their souls with wickedness which complete the ceremony picture. Basing the review of the story in old English language, it doesn’t state there if the couple, Brown and Faith, comes forth the altar together. On the other hand, considering the other versions of the story, in modern English language, it states that Brown, behind the tress, sees his wife approaching the altar for the anointing and sobs to her not to accept the communion and look to the heavens. On that note, Hawthorne’s original masterpiece, not the translated one, is vague. Either it is intentional or he overlooks at it. As per the other critics, Hawthorne is inexperienced and lacks at so many areas as a writer. Some writers call it a â€Å"License†, like a poet’s license. But whatever that is, it should be discussed well. If Hawthorne does it intentionally, it should be supported with explanation, not necessarily through words but a mere correlation to the plot. In this case, Hawthorne is not able to supply the missing information. As the story proceeds to the ceremony, it shows there that Brown is definitely not amazed with what is happening. He sees familiar faces like his neighbors and other not mentioned characters but clearly refer to people who never crossed his innocent young mind could be there. One instance there is he sees a figure who has the likeness of his mom trying to stop him from being one with them. Hawthorne at this part, again, wins a trophy for â€Å"imaginational† effects. If the motion picture of this story follows the concepts of the author, it would be a great success. He uses terms likes â€Å"figures† and â€Å"unclear images† to make his readers understand that those people described as figures are those who have been anointed and became wicked. In the story, it shows that these people are imprisoned by the anointing. They are living but unfree, somebody but dead. Imagine what they look like†¦living-dead beings which make the ceremony scarier. Hawthorne’s description of the scene is very essential to make the ceremony spooky. After the scene at the ceremony, Brown finds himself standing beside a big, cold and damp rock. This surely confused the readers. A teleportation from the ceremony back to the woods. He is thinking if the experience at the ceremony is a dream or a reality. Either of the two, it’s a nightmare. Hawthorne is letting his readers think what really transpired. While I was at the ceremony part, I thought I was at the climax of the story. I realized I was wrong. This is the peak. Hawthorne leaves us a question if it really happened, just like Brown’s question to himself. The next morning, back in Salem, Goodman’s view about his neighbors, the leaders of the Christian community, everyone who seems to practice good conduct and even his wife is attached with skepticism. Did the journey really happen or it was a dram in slumber? The author doesn’t tell us and it doesn’t matter. Brown goes back to Salem a changed man. He is never able to see his neighbors the same way like before, and becomes a sour hermit. He never able to see his wife the same way again and becomes an isolated husband. As per a source, Brown despises these people because he sees that same traits in himself. Like the people in his journey, he questions his own religion. However, he projects his own fears onto those around him. The dream is a manifestation of all of the insecurities he has about himself and the choices he has made in life. However, he is too proud to acknowledge his own faults. His life ends alone and miserable because he was never able to look at himself and realize that what he believed were everyone elses faults were his as well. He is completely isolated from his society. Thus, he begins to become jaded and cynical about the things happening around him. The troubled Goodman lives his life with disbelief, uncertainty and doubt. Brown is a changed man after his journey. Hawthorne demonstrates how he, a Puritan, fails the test of his honest and religious being. Hawthorne uses cold drops from the hanging twig which is not a typical baptism in most Christians because they don’t sprinkle on the head. This means that Brown cannot be a true Christian himself. The beginning of the story represents immaturity, goodness and ever man. Brown is a very religious in nature. Not knowing the hurdles lie ahead, he journey to the dark uncertainly forest. Brown is said to be nave because he went to the evil forest in spite of his wife’s warning of the danger that could be encountered. It demonstrates the prototype of the innocent. He becomes irrational optimistic towards his wife’s cautioning him to go to the forester. The use of symbolism in Young Goodman Brown shows that evil is everywhere, which becomes evident in the conclusion of this story. He feels like his father and grandfather committed great sins. We take a journey with him into the awful forest. There is always an association between forests and evil. As per the other critics of the story, the name Goodman refers to everyone. But actually, it perfectly explains the main character Goodman, who happens to be a good guy but also has tendencies to be enticed by wickedness. The name is also accompanied by the word â€Å"Young† which simply explains the word itself†¦young. In the story, it shows that he, Goodman, tries to turn back a couple of times because of his Faith in two aspects, his wife and faith itself. But realizing that his wife is to be initiated at the ceremony, disappointment lives on his face and resumes to his original plan. With uncertainty and anxiety, he declines to be anointed and looks to the heavens above. This simply clarifies the statement above that he has tendencies to be enticed by wickedness. All men can be drawn to such horrifying acts but can also decline the temptation. This typical form of a biblical story shows Browns efforts in grasping the nature of good and evil. He has his communal society and religious values but those were not enough for him. He went on a journey to search and found the answers from the dark side. He then changed into a pessimistic man from an optimistic one. He was once innocent from the reality, and due to his curiosity, he was faced squarely to it. Brown looked for the nature of good and evil and found the answer. The story shows where the line is drawn between good and evil and who are in danger crossing it. Hawthorne skillfully reveals the shadowy area between Good and Evil, where it is hard to determine if something is good or evil.
